Phonics

At Holywell we follow the Storytime Phonics scheme for our phonics teaching.

Storytime phonics is a holistic, whole class approach to learning to read. Its joyful yet systematic approach uses REAL books by best loved authors to contextualise the phonemes. Our phonics lessons are multi-sensory and engaging for children and also encourages reading for pleasure and developing a love of books.

Storytime Phonics follows the sequence and phases of Letters and Sounds. Each sound is linked to a story, action and rhyme.

The children are introduced to ‘The Phonics Fairy’ in reception, and continue the scheme through year 1. The video below gives you a small taster of what Storytime Phonics is all about.
